TIRE WEAR INDICATORSManufactured tires have wear bars to assist the consumer in determining when it is time to purchase new tires. Wear bars appear as small platform bumps located in the grooves of the tire. They can be found across the width of the tire about every 8 or so inches. The bars are 2/32 of an inch high. It is time for new tires when the tread on a tire is even with the wear bar. When inspecting tires always check several locations on each tire to determine if one part of the tire has worn more than another. This could be an indication of other problems such as a need for alignment or improper air pressure in the tire. Tires should be inspected once a month and before all long trips.
