Youth Leadership Conference

4:00 AM - 8:00 AM
Monday, June 10 - Friday, June 14

Victoria College Student Center, 2200 E Red River St., Victoria, TX 77901

YOUth LEADership Conference 2013 Victoria Business and Education Coalition (VBEC) along with Pioneer Natural Resources will host the annual YOUth LEADership Conference for incoming 7th graders, June 10-14 at Victoria College from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This once-a-year, life-changing program has expanded to all the communities that Pioneer Natural Resource has done business in and around the Victoria area. VBEC will be accepting 100 students from regional area school districts along with 30 high school/ college student leaders. The conference is now only $50 to attend as Pioneer Natural Resources has graciously provided a $100 scholarship on behalf of all participants, thus covering the majority of the actual $150 conference fee. Lunch, snacks, and drinks will be provided each day along with many great activities. Student participants will experience dynamic speakers, a rock-wall climb, recreation, a community-service project, and a water party! Daily themes include “Goals and Dreams,” “Success that Matters,” “Servant Leadership,” and “Obedience” (which is taught by a Team of Incredible Dogs), Invista and DOW will host the “YOUth LEADers in Science” Day, highlighting exciting interactive experiments and demonstrations. During the week we strongly stress to students to continue their education and stay in school in order to be successful. We are able to keep participants engaged in meaningful discussion by balancing fun activities, presentations, and projects, and awarding many certificates and trophies. Many students have shared how the conference has had a positive impact on their lives (even life-changing). Some of these very same students return serving as team leaders to the conference each year. According to student evaluations, one highlight of our conference is a presentation by a man who has no arms, and yet he drives, diapers his baby, and eats with his feet. He presents his philosophy: “You can do anything that you put your mind to, so never give up!” This annual event is having a long-term impact on the schools and communities in our region. We want to reach young adults at pinnacle points in their lives. By the end of the week, an “I CAN” attitude will be instilled in each student. Participants will be inspired and equipped with the leadership skills needed to reach their educational and career goals. With the support of Pioneer Natural Resources, we are able to reach more students this year than ever before. Along with this support, we are in need of community volunteers. Come out and meet our future leaders by assisting with daily activities including snacks, events, and supervision. Our goal is to show our students the community supports them and cares about their future.
