Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital is seeking to engage the community in a greater partnership in healthy living through a new wellness initiative that will begin In December. The first event of its kind will be held at the hospital on Wednesday, December 4th from noon to 1:00 pm and the public is invited to attend. In 2014, OKMH will partner with several non profit organizations to bring informative, supportive, wellness programming to the community at no cost to the participants.
The first Lunch and Learn will focus on healthy eating during the holidays and offer smart alternatives to diet busting party foods in their holiday gatherings. The Hospital’s Staff Nutritionist will be armed with some healthy food swaps that you can use during your family get-togethers and new recipes you can use to dazzle your holiday party guests. Whether you are trying to better prepare meals for those in your family who are dealing with health issues such as Diabetes and Heart Disease, or just trying to avoid packing on those extra holiday pounds, this fun and informative session will provide you with great information to take home and share with your family and friends.
Participants can bring their own lunch or order one in advance from the hospital cafeteria. There is no charge for the seminar or the catered lunch, however RSVP’s are required for the prepared meal. All are welcome and groups are encouraged to attend together! All participants will be able to sample several healthy menu ideas such as homemade Black Bean and Hummus dips, healthy flatbreads, gluten free desserts and Non Alcoholic Mocktails. The hospital will also be welcoming suggestions from the community on what types of programming they would like to see in 2014 in their campaign to bring healthy living to area residents.
To RSVP for lunch, or for questions regarding the event please call the hospital Marketing Director, Barbara James at 830-583-3401 Ext. 591, or email at Barbara.James@okmh.org.
