If you live at the apartments between the Wal-mart and A.C. Jones, you can hear music in the morning. If you have, it’s the A.C. Jones Mariachi practicing outside the band hall. “During the process of learning and memorizing a song, students need to get out of their comfort zone, the class room,” said band director Jaime Vela. “Their instruments and voices sound differently depending on their surroundings. We try to practice the concept that music is more than what is on paper, its performance, confidence and expression. Things that no one can express in paper form.” This Monday, Dec. 10, the Mariachis will perform a pre-concert about 6:35 p.m. before the high school band Christmas concert. “We will be debuting the Jazz Band, come back at 7 p.m. and then the concert band and symphonic band.” The concert is free and open to the public. On Dec. 11, the Moreno Mddle School bands will hold their Christmas concert at 7 p.m.
