On Wednesday February 27, 2013 the Falls City fourth graders enjoyed a field trip to the capitol in Austin, Texas. The trip was organized by Karnes County Judge Barbara Najvar Shaw. With the assistance of the Falls City fourth grade teachers, the children brainstormed many great ideas about their school; these ideas were presented to each student in resolution form and signed by Representative Tim Kleinschmidt. In addition to the Capital Tour, the students enjoyed a Scavenger Hunt on the Capital Lawn, a catered lunch compliments of Hugo Gutierrez with Marathon Oil, and a performance by the world famous Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders! A special thanks to Mrs. Bettin, Mrs. Blocker, and the Falls City fourth grade homeroom teachers, Mary Braniff and Suzanne Houdmann for all of their help in preparing and ensuring success of the trip. In addition, special thanks to MeLissa Nemecek and Representative Tim Kleinschmidt for their hospitality! The trip was a great learning experience and a great time was had by all.

Mrs. Hosek’s third grade students at Kenedy Elementary are learning about the government in social studies. Mrs. Hosek assigned a project where each student had to make five laws for the school. The students were very creative. Some of the rules they came up with were: the cafeteria should serve nachos every day, no homework, PE should be one hour long, school should start at noon and end at two.
