Horton Hatches the Egg: In an effort to stay on the job and finish what he started, Horton sits on a bird named Mayzie’s egg and nest to finish her job: “But Horton kept sitting, and said with a sneeze, ‘I’ll stay on this egg and I won’t let it freeze. I meant what I said, And I said what I meant...An elephant is faithful 100 per cent!’” The Bible principle — Be steadfast and don’t quit, I Cor. 15:58; Rev. 2:10; Prov. 24:10.
Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” In Dr. Seuss’ lesser known book, On Beyond Zebra, he expresses that with imagination we can go further and “far beyond” what we can see.
The places I took him! I tried hard to tell Young Conrad Cornelius o’Donald o’Dell.
A few brand-new wonderful words he might spell.
I led him around and I tried hard to show.
There are things beyond Z that most people don’t know.
I took him past Zebra. As far as I could.
And I think, perhaps, maybe I did him some good.
Because finally he said, “This is really great stuff!
“And I guess the old alphabet “Isn’t enough!”
Now the letters he uses are something to see!
Most people still stop at the Z…But not He!
Bible Principle: See what can’t be seen, by faith, Hebrews 11:27. Also, the Bible says, “for we walk by faith, and not by sight,” II Corinthians 5:7.
To sum up the principles found in these Dr. Seuss’ books, we read in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
