SKIDMORE – The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcat varsity basketball squad escaped the visiting Banquete Bulldogs on Friday night, earning a 62-58 victory.

The win pushed the ’Cats record to 5-24 mark on the year, and the S-T boys are 3-10 in district play with one more contest remaining in their season.

The Bobcats got rolling right away with a good 15-point outburst in the first quarter while the cold-shooting ’Dogs were held to four markers.

The S-T offense added another nine points in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs rallied strongly to pad their side with 20 markers. It was tied at 24-24 heading into the halftime intermission.

The third period was pretty much even as both teams scored in double figures. The Bobcats hit for 12 points, and the Bulldogs piled on 14 markers to grab a slight 38-36 lead.

The Bobcats upped the tempo and raced past the Banquete boys over the final eight minutes. Tough defense and some deadly shooting provided the home team with 26 fourth quarter points while the Bulldogs added 20 in the fast-paced fourth quarter.

Two Bobcats hit for 20 points or better in the win. Bryan Shaw led the way with 24 markers while Aaron Hughes recorded 20. James Rodriguez followed with six tallies. Marcus Sarate added five, as did Fred Guajardo. Justin Lopez finished with two.

The Bobcats closed out their season on Tuesday night with a road tilt in Taft against the Greyhounds.
