Nopal Park
Image 1 / 5
Nopal Park, at North Live Oak St. and West Fannin St., is an active park—or, call it a “recess” park—thanks to the proximity of Hall Elementary across the street. Any photographer will be beset with pleas of “Take my picture.” Then, like a flock of birds startled by the ringing of a school bell, they are gone, and a quiet peace returns. The swings are stilled; the slide is abandoned, and the plethora of curved paths are empty, which begs the question: which is the better way to discover and appreciate its nine acres—when it is empty or when it is filled with the treble babble of excited and happy youngsters? You decide.
