Construction is well underway on the DCP Midstream natural gas processing plant. Piping, vessels and coolers are being installed on a daily basis.
You may recall from my last article about the upcoming implementation of the Goliad County Scofflaw by the Goliad County Tax Office. The Scofflaw permits denial to register a motor vehicle if the owner owes the county money for a fine, fee, or tax that is past due.
Presently, the law only allows us to use this to collect from local residents. I have been in contact with the offices of Representative Geannie Morrison and Senator Glenn Hegar for possible help in revising the law to allow counties to contract with the Department of Motor Vehicles to flag vehicle owners across the entire state who owe overdue fines and fees.
Several months ago, the local Health and Human Services Commission office was closed. On Monday, the Goliad County Commissioners’ Court approved the sharing or office space in the Franklin Street annex between the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services and the Gulf Bend Center. This will provide space for DARS counselors to meet with local clients.
The county continues to work with the school to develop an inter-local agreement, which will provide a school resource officer (SRO) and vehicle to enhance school security.
Responding to unnecessary emergency calls costs the county, while making equipment and personnel unavailable for other situations.
To avoid these unwarranted calls, if you plan to burn brush or anything larger than household trash in a barrel, please make a courtesy call to the Goliad County Sheriff’s Office before you begin.
