BEEVILLE — Two biology labs at the Coastal Bend College campus here will be renovated.

At its regular meeting last Thursday, the CBC board of trustees approved the $223,816 renovation, utilizing a HSI STEM (Hispanic Serving Institution Science Technology Engineer Math) grant from the Department of Education.

The grants are part of a DOE project called OASIS (Optimizing Academic Success in the Sciences)

The board chose VWR International of Irving to begin demolition work in mid to late May.

CBC is utilizing a cooperative purchasing process, vetted by the State of Texas, that affords a smaller institution the same buying power as a larger institution when it comes to cost.

The demolition is part of a five-year program to renovate eight science labs and their associated stockrooms.

Renovation of the labs includes removing all existing furniture, equipment and fixtures, removing asbestos in flooring and joint compounds and replacing the flooring.

The company expects to be finished by August.
