Mr. Nelson was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Tuleta, to Charles Oscar and Myrtle Davidson Nelson. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was retired from Tesoro Land & Marine as a manager in the Laredo District.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Nelson; and three sisters, Lora Lee Jensen, Marie Shiflette and Madge Borchers.
Survivors include a son, Carl O. (Catherine) Nelson Jr. of Austin; a daughter, Mary Jane (Chip) Dence of Victoria; three grandchildren, Carl Nelson III of Orlando, Fla., Amelia Nelson and Jonathan (Stephanie) Nelson, both of Austin; two sisters, Irene Nelson Chessher of Pettus and Dolly Murch of San Antonio.
Visitation was held Friday, May 4, from 6-8 p.m. at Oak Park Memorial Chapel.
The funeral service was held there Saturday, May 5, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Don Taylor officiating. Interment followed at Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Paul Looney, Jonathan Nelson, Kenny Berg, David Chessher, John B. Hamilton and Trey Nelson.
