A.C. Jones High School junior Taylor Castillo was the recipient of this year's Barnhart Scholarship. She will be receiving $30,000 over four years for college and she already knows what she wants to study. Working last summer with Dr. Joe Larakers in his medical practice helped Taylor Castillo decide on a career goal as a pediatrician, and she will begin her pre-med studies at the University of Texas. She has set another goal and reached this one while still in high school as she will graduate in May 2012 with an associate’s degree in science from Coastal Bend College. Also, while in school she has earned numerous academic awards in math, science and Spanish courses and is currently president of the Student Council. Outside the classroom, she has participated in both softball and soccer and has been recognized on the district level in both sports.
