Information contributed by candidate

Dennis DeWitt is announcing his candidacy and asking to be elected to the Bee County Commissioners Court in the Commissioner Precinct 2 position. Bee County residents in voting precincts 2, 5, 8, 11, 12, 16 and 18 will have a choice in the March primary election. I will be on that ballot to provide that choice. Serving the citizens of Bee County for over 9 years as the Director of a Bee County Department, I am a Republican candidate for the position of Commissioner Precinct 2 and will be your conservative voice of responsible leadership.

I believe County Government should be viewed as a business, as such; decisions made should reflect financial responsibility as well as common sense. I believe in term limits for commissioners, two elected terms (8 yrs.), is adequate time to organize and fulfill positive aspirations for the good of precinct 2. Decisions affecting other taxing entities must be made in open consultation with those entities, not dictated and forced upon them resulting in legal issues in which the taxpayer loses from both sides. I believe new sources of revenue are available whereby we will not rely solely upon taxpayer dollars to fund County operations. I will inspect current procedures and invigorate those procedures to capture the money owed to the taxpayers of Bee County. In my previous career with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department I was responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling over $15M in budget funds for Texas State Parks. I will bring that budget experience to the Commissioners Court whereby we will not be confronted by last minute budget surprises resulting in losses and possible service cuts. I will ensure we use benchmarks, budget workshops and reviews resulting in a budget process instead of an unwelcome surprise. I will bring the knowledge, skills and abilities acquired in 31 years of state service as well as those County-wide skills acquired serving Bee County and use them for the wellbeing and benefit of the residents of precinct. 2

I will meet face to face with precinct 2 residents at your locations as well as riding the roads to see firsthand what the needs are in the rural areas. I believe the rural areas in precinct 2 are underserved and I will be your commissioner who will plan ahead and not simply react to the conditions of the day. I will be your conservative commissioner who will use common sense to plan for the future as well as ensure

“today” is secure.

The veteran’s office for Bee County is located within my Department. I honorably served in the army reserves and my son is an honorably discharged Marine. Veterans are very dear to all of us, they signed a blank check payable with their life when they raised their hand and swore to protect and defend our country. It is extremely important the veteran’s service office in Beeville continues to respond at a high level.

I have deep roots in Bee County with a family history of over 100 years. I was born, raised and educated in Bee County. I was born, raised and educated in Bee County. I earned a bachelor’s degree in government and economics from Texas A&M - Kingsville and worked in the oil fields near Pettus for K.R. Leggett to help pay for my college education. I own and operate my portion of the family ranch near the South Texas Children’s Home, raising cattle.

My record of service to Bee County is open to the public. I successfully designed, presented and acquired several grants at no cost to Bee County taxpayers. One grant replaced failed septic systems, in Pawnee, Tuleta and Mineral, thereby protecting groundwater, public health and property values. These septic systems were installed at no cost to Bee County or the property owner, nor is there any long term obligation. I believe quality of life issues for Precinct 2 residents is very important. As Bee County health inspector, I researched uranium mining and possible serious threats to our ground water as well as other health effects and presented detailed information to the Commissioners Court. Schools in Bee County are inspected yearly through my department regarding health and safety issues to protect children, staff and visitors. Our children and grandchildren are the future; we must ensure a safe environment for their present and future needs.

I will serve the citizens of precinct 2 by protecting and conserving the natural, financial and cultural resources through maturity, education, experience and common sense.

Vote to put common sense on the Commissioners Court from Precinct 2 - vote Dennis DeWitt as Commissioner.
