Two Aransas Pass residents were released on bond last week after being booked on burglary of a habitation charges in connection with a Skidmore break-in.

Bee County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Steve Martin said the burglary actually happened in January 2008 but deputies here had no leads in the case until recently.

Martin said he was contacted by investigators with the Ingleside Police Department after officers there were able to connect a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman with the Skidmore burglary.

Police there had arrested the pair on unrelated charges.

Martin and Deputy Capt. Dan Caddell both went to Ingleside to question Lester Wallace, 21, and Kristi Steinert, 19. Martin said it was during that interview that they were able not only to track down some of the property missing from the Skidmore residence but also to help officers in San Patricio County to clear up some burglaries.

Deputies here then were able to locate some of the stolen property at a pawn shop in Aransas Pass.

Investigators got warrants for the suspects and recovered a computer and a Browning shotgun. Martin said he expects that some more property could eventually be recovered.

“They were arrested in San Patricio County on or about Aug. 19 on multiple warrants, one of which was ours,” Martin said.

The two were charged with burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony, and Justice of the Peace Joe Lyvers set bond on the suspects at $5,000 each.

Second degree felonies are punishable by a prison term of as much as 20 years and a fine of $10,000.

Martin said the two suspects were in custody here until Sept. 1 when both made bail. However, other agencies in the area intend to speak to the two regarding additional burglaries.
