Dunlap wins first in VFW’s Patriots Pin essay contest

Kirstee Dunlap of Beeville was presented with a $1,500 scholarship recently for placing first in the Patriots Pin essay contest. She received a standing ovation from the attendance at the annual VOD Scholarship Banquet held at the Double Tree Hotel Ballroom in Austin.

This event is held annually at the MidWinter Conference in Austin. A total of $69,500,000 was awarded to recipients of the VFW VOD & Patriots Pin program this year. Kirstee Dunlap is an 8th-grader at the Pettus ISD School. She also received a scholarship from Beeville VFW Post 9170 as well as one from VFW District 6.

Her essay will now go to the national competition that will be held at the National VFW Convention in June. She is the daughter of Raymond III and Amanda Dunlap of Beeville.
