PETTUS – The host Eagle varsity baseball team got the better of the visiting Woodsboro Eagles in a slugfest, 16-15, on Tuesday night.

“We had another great game last night. Pettus beat Woodsboro 16-15. This puts us on a two-game winning streak,” said head coach Homer Croyle.

Dylan Dunn picked up the win on the mound for the Pettus boys, pitching two and a third innings. Dunn allowed four hits and struck out four Woodsboro batters. He allowed three runs, but only one was earned, while walking three WHS hitters.

The Pettus bats were hot. Matt Gonzales led the way with a perfect 4-4 night that included a single, double, triple and a home run for the elusive “cycle.” Gonzales finished with three RBIs and scored three runs on the night.

Zack Gonzales went 2-3 with a double and a triple that helped him drive in six big runs for the Eagles. Anthony Mendoza picked up three hits in four trips to the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored in the win.

The Pettus varsity traveled to Kenedy on Thursday night in the season finale for both squads.
