GOLIAD – The 4,500 eggs went quicker than Pam Long expected.

Long, one of the organizers of the annual Goliad Main Street Easter Egg Hunt, watched as approximately 350 youngsters scooped up the eggs on the Goliad County Courthouse lawn Saturday.

The plan was to have the children hunt the eggs one age group at a time. But when the youngest age group began scurrying for the eggs, a free-for-all ensued with all the youngsters gobbling up the eggs in a matter of a few minutes.

“All they heard was, ‘Go’ and they all started,” Long said.

Nevertheless, the event attracted approximately 500 people, many of whom came from out of town.

Among the activities were face painting, sack races, egg tosses and a parade around the Square with the Easter Bunny.

The eggs were donated by local merchants and residents.
