The visitors won the JV contest, 10-3, to begin the evening and then took the measure of the varsity ladies in the nightcap, 12-2.
It was a top-notched pitching performance from G-P varsity starter Amie Cisneros who allowed just two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out seven Lady Trojans and giving up just four hits on the night.
Rebekah Mendoza stroked two of the four hits for the Lady Trojans while Theresa Amador and Eddika Ortega picked up the other two base hits.
A couple of early Beeville errors helped the visitors plate three runs in the first inning. G-P added a single run in the second, but the Lady Trojans showed some fire and cut the lead in half with two runs of their own in the home half of the second. The game was still a contest, but the Lady Cats got another run in the third and then exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. Two more runs came in the fifth and the Lady Trojans lost by the ten-run rule.
“We played hard tonight. I thought we had a chance to make it a better ball game in the bottom of the third inning, but we could not come up with enough big hits,” said head coach Jose Flores.
Amador took the loss in the circle for the Lady Trojans, giving up 10 runs, eight earned, in her three and a third innings of work. Rebecca De Los Santos pitched the final inning plus, giving up two runs to the Lady Cats. Lynn Puente picked up one RBI in the game while Taylor Castillo and MacKenzie DeLaGarza scored the Beeville runs.
The Lady Trojans played in Victoria last night (Friday) against the Victoria West Warriors in another district battle. On Saturday, the girls are scheduled to play at Sinton at 7 p.m. The Beeville girls will travel to Cuero on Wednesday of next week to play the Lady Gobblers.
In the JV game, the Lady Trojans got two doubles and two RBIs from Caitlyn Ortiz. Lorena Rosales also smacked a double and was brought in by Ortiz. Tifi’ni Puebla was walked and got to third before stealing home for Beeville’s third run.
“We knew G-P is a good team, and that we were going to have to put the ball in play. We are going to have to work harder on defense and put the ball in play, we can only get better,” said JV coach Alan Burkett.
The JV girls played Victoria West on Friday night and will have a doubleheader on Saturday in Sinton. On Monday, the JV Moody Lady Trojans will visit Beeville for a non-district encounter. Two games are on tap with the first pitch set for 5:30 p.m. and a second JV contest will begin at 7 p.m.
