Right-hander Brandon East had the task of gong against the hard-hitting George West Longhorns on Friday night. East went the distance, but the GW boys plated 12 runs in their 12-1 victory in Skidmore.
“We spotted them five runs in the first and were never able to recover. Errors hurt us bad in this one,” said S-T head coach Cody Fields.
“George West is a great team. They started a little slow this year due to basketball, but they are starting to click on all cylinders.”
The Longhorns plated five runs in the top of the first to jump on S-T starter Brandon East and the Bobcats. The GW bats were active all night as they piled up 13 hits in the contest. Longhorn hurler Derek Cantu limited the ’Cats to just two hits on the evening.
S-T scored its lone run in the bottom of the first to make it a 5-1 affair, but the ’Horns added four runs in the third, two in the fourth and one final run in the fifth to gain the win.
East was a perfect 2-2 at the plate for the Bobcats as he picked up their only two hits in the game. Kyle Nelson scored the S-T run on an RBI ground-out from T.J. Amador.
“We needed to come out early and get a lead and take the momentum to have a shot and we did the total opposite. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat,” said Fields.
The Bobcats traveled to Odem on Tuesday to test the Owls. On Friday, the S-T boys will host San Diego.
