PALACIOS – The Goliad boys won the District 30-2A cross country title Oct. 24 and the Tigerettes finished third.

Both teams qualified for the Region IV-2A meet to be held Nov. 3 in San Antonio. The top 10 individuals and the top three teams qualified for regionals.

Goliad’s John von Dohlen finished second overall and teammate Austen Guerrero followed in third. Also leading the Tigers were Ryan Walker (seventh), Quentin Alkek (11th), Jake Schneider (17th), Ryder Billo (28th), and Anthony Maldonado (37th).

Goliad finished with 40 points and Palacios was second with 45. Industrial (64) was third, Aransas Pass (89) was fourth, Edna (124) was fifth, Tidehaven (130) was sixth, and Bloomington (170) was seventh.

Goliad’s Hana Henson finished seventh overall in the girls division. Danielle Garza (13th), Denise Jones (14th), Marla Reyna (18th), Morgan Jeanneret (20th), Kelsey Kocian (28th), and Briana Flores (30th) also led the Tigerettes.

Industrial won the team title with 28 points and was followed by Palacios (63). Goliad had 68 to edge Refugio (105) for third.

Goliad’s Nikolas West-fall was eighth in the JV boys race. Devyn Towery was third and Samantha Garza 15th in the JV girls event.

“I am very proud of how hard the kids fought to overcome adversity to accomplish their goals,” Goliad coach Ed Ousley said. “One of the boys’ top runners (Alkek) was very sick on race day. His teammates picked up the slack with some individuals running their personal bests to compensate. They showed heart and determination.”
