Grand Jury indicts two for cocaine possession

The Live Oak County Grand Jury returned eight indictments on Oct. 15; two of those indictments were for possession of cocaine.

Edward Blakely Jr., 24, of George West was indicted on two counts. Count one was for possession of a controlled substance, PG 1-cocaine (1-4 g), enhanced. Count two was for tampering with physical evidence, enhanced. As Blakely previously served time in a penitentiary, the charges were enhanced to that of a second-degree felony. Blakely was arrested by DPS Trooper Clarence Lewinski on March 22 at 4 a.m. and originally charged with five offenses, said Live Oak County Sheriff Larry Busby. Blakely was magistrated by Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Virginia Tanguma. She set five bonds totaling $59,000. Sheriff’s records indicate Blakely posted bond. District Judge Janna Whatley continued Blakely on the same bonds.

Jose Armando Garcia, 34, of Mission was indicted for possession of a controlled substance, PG 1-cocaine (1-4 g), enhanced. As Garcia previously served time in a penitentiary, the charges were enhanced. Garcia was originally arrested on March 25 by DPS Trooper C. Villarreal. Bond was placed in grand jury folder on April 9. Upon indictment, Whatley continued Garcia on the same bond.

Carolos Enrique Rodriguez-Adame, 24, of Penitas was indicted for money laundering of greater than $20,000 but less than $100,000, which is a second-degree felony. Rodriguez-Adame was arrested on Jan. 29 at 11:15 p.m. by DPS Trooper Jason Galvan. He was magistrated by Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Elizabeth Ellis; she set bond at $40,000. Rodriguez-Adame posted bond two days later. Upon indictment, Whatley continued Rodriguez-Adame on the same bond.

Tommy Sid Sparks Jr. 51, of San Antonio was indicted for driving while intoxicated with a passenger under the age of 15. Sparks was arrested on May 31 by DPS Trooper Richard Russell. In addition to the felony charge, Sparks was charged with possession of marijuana (less than 2 oz.) which is a Class B misdemeanor and falls under county court. Sparks was magistrated by Three Rivers Municipal Judge Dawn Benham. She set bond at $20,000 for the felony DWI charge and $1,500 on the marijuana charge. Sparks posted bond and was released. Upon indictment, Whatley continued Rodriguez-Adame on the same bond.

Yessenia Barron, 35 of Dallas was indicted for driving while intoxicated. Busby said, “She was involved in a 10-50 (major traffic accident) and taken to the hospital. At the time she was not arrested. Judge Whatley issued a capias for her arrest with a $5,000 bond.”

Martin Montes Banda, 53, of San Antonio was indicted for driving while intoxicated, enhanced. As Banda previously served time in a penitentiary, the charges were enhanced. Banda was arrested on May 21 by DPS Trooper Richard Russell and charged with three offenses. He was magistrated by George West Municipal Judge Patricia Lanford. Bond was set at $2,500 for the felony DWI charge; bond was set at $800 and $400, respectively, for the class C misdemeanor charges of driving while license invalid and operating a motor vehicle without financial responsibility. Total bonds of $3,700 were posted and he was released. Upon indictment, Whatley continued Banda on the same bond.

Fernando Santos Ruiz, 43, of San Antonio was indicted for driving while intoxicated. Ruiz was arrested by Trooper Galvan on Dec. 20, 2008, at 2:34 a.m. He was charged with DWI, a third-degree felony. Ruiz was magistrated by Ellis; she set bond at $5,000. Ruiz posted bond on Dec. 29 and was released. Upon indictment, Whatley continued Ruiz on the same bond.

Florentino L. Arriaga, 45, of San Antonio was indicted for driving while intoxicated. Arriaga was arrested by Trooper Russell on July 2 at 6:55 p.m. He was charged with DWI third or more. Arriaga was magistrated by Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Endercio Chapa, who set bond at $5,000. Arriaga posted bond the next day and was released. Upon indictment, Whatley continued Arriaga on the same bond.
