Hall’s final board meeting was on Sept. 23. At SPEC’s annual meeting in Beeville on Sept. 28, the Co-op announced the results of the 2013 board election; the members voted to make Bobby Bauch the new director-at-large.
Hall, a Beeville native, is a UT-Austin graduate and a retired English teacher. She and her husband, Gerald Hall, became members of SPEC about 55 years ago. In 1996, she ran for and won a seat on the board, and Hall would go on to become a Credentialed Cooperative Director of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
“It has really been a pleasure working with Shirley Hall over the past 17 years,” said SPEC General Manager Ron Hughes. “Shirley has always voted for what she believed to be in the best interest of the co-op. She had that rare ability to balance the member and employee needs with the business needs of the cooperative. I appreciate her help and support and wish her the best.”
After Hall announced she would be stepping down, the board passed a resolution thanking her for her 17 years of service as “a board member, a true asset and a friend of San Patricio Electric Cooperative.”
“When I think of Shirley Hall’s many years of service on the San Patricio Electric Co-op board, I think of words like ‘commitment’, ‘dedication’ and ‘patience’, which she has in equal measure,” said District 6 Director Jim Bassett. “However, the word that best describes Shirley Hall is lady! I will miss Shirley’s smile.”
