Mrs. Childress and her husband, Buddy, lived in Beeville for more than 40 years before they moved to the Houston area. She was a member of the Beeville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as the “go to” person whenever anyone needed assistance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lillian Case; her husband of 63 years, Doyal Childress; a son, Doyal “Buddy” Childress Jr.; one brother; and four sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, Joy (John) Sloan and Barbara Puckett; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation was held Friday, May 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clayton Funeral Home in Pearland.
The funeral service was conducted there Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m. with Rayford Welch officiating. Interment followed at Alvin Cemetery.
