The Lady Trojans opened their basketball season with a multi-team scrimmage on Saturday at the Moreno Middle School gyms. “We started the season opening with a scrimmage showcase. We played four teams – Moody, Edna, Karnes City and Mathis. We looked a little rusty at the beginning, but we started playing more together as we went along,” said head coach Katina Walker. “We are smaller this year. Currently, the Lady Trojans have eight seniors and one sophomore. We are experienced, but we have a smaller bench. This season, we are hoping to accomplish something Beeville’s girls basketball program has not done in a while, which is make it to the playoffs. However, before we get there, we need to do some fine tuning.”

Trojan Brent Reyna slides through a couple of Miller Buc defenders during one of Saturday’s scrimmage sessions. “I thought we looked good in spots and needed improvement in some areas also – transition defense needs a bunch of work – but it’s early and that’s what practice is for,” said Trojan head coach Mike Luce.
