Hollis Edward Bryan, age 90, of Beeville, Texas. Loving husband and father went home to be with our Lord God on Tuesday, December 18, 2012.

Hollis was born January 20, 1922, to Edward Floyd and Ruby Emmie (Evans) Bryan in Pecan Gap, Texas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Joyce Bryan; son, Travis Alan Bryan, and sister, Glaydes B. Probst.

Survivors are his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Nadine (Thompson-Cape) Bryan; daughter Cynthia Gay (Bob) Dougherty, daughter Vickie Ann Bryan; adopted daughter Christine Owens; son-in-law Ralph V. Stubenthal; brother Lloyd Hemphill; sister-in-law Lucille Langenkamp; 9 grandsons, 7 granddaughters, 14 great grandchildren and 2 nieces.

Hollis was a WWII Veteran. He enlisted to the United States Marine Corps September 15, 1942, before graduating from high school. He was a Field Telephone Man, stationed in Bougainville Island and Guadacanal. After being injured while serving, he was honorably discharged November 16, 1945.

He then completed his high school and received his diploma. He then entered watchmaker school to obtain his certification in San Antonio, Texas.

Hollis found the love of his life in Beeville, Texas, Dorothy Nadine Thompson-Cape. They married January 1, 1947. While living in Alice, Texas working as a watchmaker, he decided to pursue a new career with the Texas Department of Public Safety as a Highway Patrol Trooper. Stationed in Amarillo, Texas for 3 years he moved his wife Dot and 2 daughters to Corpus Christi, Texas due to a transfer. They continued to reside there for 29 years until completing 32 ½ years to retire in 1985. He then took Dot and moved back to Beeville to his parents’ old home place. After lots of hard labor and love, he restored the house to be their dream home.

Hollis enjoyed hunting and was always ready to help any of his friends. He was an excellent carpenter and much, much more.

He was so very proud to be a Catholic Christian. He led a full life traveling around the United States with his beloved Dot to many U.S. Marine functions. Making new friends and enjoying visiting with the old ones. He has served his country and his family, and most of all, his Lord God well. Hollis will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2012, with a Rosary recited that evening at 7 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore, Texas, with full military honors.
