“This was a good win for us after starting out 0-4 in district. We finally made some shots, and it also helped that we created some early turnovers that led to transition buckets,” said Trojan JV coach Michael Hernandez.
The Trojans led by as many as 18 points, but the Wildcats fought back on their home court to make the score a little more respectable down the stretch.
“Tommy Dominguez caught fire in the second and third quarters, hitting five three-pointers over those two periods. Our bigs, Jonathan Huser and Josh Salazar, were huge on the boards on both ends of the floor,” said Hernandez.
The Trojans got into late foul trouble with both point guards coming up with four fouls late in the contest.
“Freshman Gabriel Cardenas also played well for us after moving up from the freshman team last week. He was pushed into emergency point guard duty after our two key ballhandlers picked four fouls early in the final quarter,” Hernandez said.
Dominguez finished with 18 points on the night. Huser added 11 points, while Robert Torres and Salazar both added seven for the Trojans. Cardenas came through with five points.
The Trojans played Victoria West on Friday, but no report has been received on that contest. The Beeville boys were in San Antonio on Monday playing the Antonian Apaches in a non-district contest. On Friday, the Trojans will travel to Victoria to meet the East Titans.
