FISCHER – After falling in their regular season finale to Falls City the week before, the Runge Yellow Jackets looked to regain momentum as they entered the Class 1A Division II playoffs against the Granger Lions on Friday night.

With their running game and defense to see them through, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Lions by the score of 22-0 to advance to the Area round.

“On one hand, it’s great, but on the other hand it’s frustrating to have this yo-yo effect,” said Runge head coach Ken Wallace.

The lone score of the first half came on Runge’s first possession of the game, after a missed field goal by Granger, on a run by Dylan Torres. Travis Perez ran in the two-point conversion to put the score at 8-0, which stood through halftime and into the fourth quarter.

The Yellow Jackets scored twice in the fourth quarter to claim victory. The first was on another run by Torres, with Ryan Saucedo kicking the PAT to make it 15-0. The second was on a run by Perez, with the kick by Saucedo putting the lead at 22-0 as time expired.

Additional statistics for the game were unavailable at press time.

This week, the Yellow Jackets will face the D’Hanis Cowboys in the Area round in Somerset. Runge is the designated visiting team for the contest.

“They’re not going to change what they do,” said Wallace. “They have great tradition and great kids. We’re going to prepare for them like they were healthy.”

Kickoff in Somerset is set for Friday, November 23 at 7:30 p.m.
