The loss ended Beeville’s season at the regional quarterfinals level of the state 4A playoffs.
Both the Lady Trojans and Jaguars played well throughout the contest. The Jags eased in front by three, 16-13, by the end of the first quarter in the dome. The Beeville girls rallied and stepped up their defensive pressure in the second eight minutes and took a 30-27 lead at the half.
The Lady Trojans, behind Victoria Elizalde, scored the first six points of the third period to jump to a 36-27 lead. The Jaguars fought back, hitting a couple of threes and playing a little tougher defense. A few Beeville turnovers also helped get the Jags back in the game.
Floresville outscored the Beeville girls 11-8 in the third quarter to knot things up at 38-38 entering the final period.
At 40-40 early in the fourth, the Jags hit a three-pointer and several free throws to fuel an 8-2 run that put them in front 48-42 with less than four minutes left.
The Beeville girls got as close as two points a couple of times in the final seconds but were forced to foul to try and gain possession. The Jaguars made good on their free throws and secured the four-point win.
The Lady Trojans finished the season with a fine 29-9 mark, returning to the postseason playoffs for the first time since 2008.
