Mr. Evans was born in Robstown to John E. Evans and Sarah Lux Evans. He graduated from Texas A&I University, where he met his future wife. On March 15, 1947, he married Marjorie Ellen Malone of Beeville. He was a farmer and rancher for many years before beginning a 28-year career as a schoolteacher.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Marjorie Evans; and his parents, John and Sarah Evans.
Survivors include three daughters, Monna Evans (Edwin) Kellam of Harlingen, Joan Evans (Frank) Franks and Sally Evans Frazier, both of Austin; five grandchildren, James N. Kellam, Robert L. Kellam, Monnaca Ann Evans, Lisa M. Franks and Lindsey L. Franks; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Evans of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home Saturday, April 28, from 5-7 p.m.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday afternoon, April 29, at 2 o’clock at Glenwood Cemetery.
