AUSTIN – Karnes City's Dontrell Lyons defended his Class 2A 200-meter dash title and anchored the Badgers' winning 800-meter relay at Saturday's UIL State Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Lyons won the 200 in a time of 21.14 seconds, which was just shy of the 2A record of 21.04 set by Refugio's Toya Jones in 1990.

Earlier, Lyons teamed with Philip Vaughan, Paul Kinney and Kenneth Glenn to win the 800 relay in 1:27.02, just edging out Rosebud-Lott, which finished in 1:27.67.

Karnes City's Katy Gotthardt finished fifth in the girls 400 in 1:00.59.
