TAFT — A terrible, cold-shooting second quarter led the Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cats to the wrong side of a 49-40 score with the Lady ’Hounds capturing the victory on Friday night.

The Skidmore-Tynan girls started well by out-scoring the home team 11-7 over the first period. But the Lady Cats managed just four points in the second quarter to trail by five, 20-15, at the half.

The third quarter was a repeat of the first, in that the Lady Cats hit for 13 markers while the Lady ’Hounds were held in check with nine tallies. That made it a one-point clash, 29-28, entering the final quarter.

The Taft girls took advantage of some hot shooting and S-T turnovers to take control down the stretch. The Lady ’Hounds recorded 20 big points in the final eight minutes, and the S-T girls answered with 12 as the Taft varsity girls captured the win by nine.

Amber Hughlett led the Lady Cats with 14 points. Courtney Leonard was also in double figures with 12. Mari Martinez managed six points in the loss.

The Lady Cats were in San Diego on Tuesday night to meet the Lady Vaqueros and will be back in Skidmore on Friday night to host the Freer Lady Bucks.
