YOAKUM — The long trip was made even longer by the fact that the Lady Trojans were swept in all their matches with the host Yoakum Lady Bulldogs and the competing Navarro Lady Panthers.

The freshman and JV girls both lost their best of three matches to the Lady Bulldogs and Panthers in straight sets.

As for the freshman matches, “We were just out-matched. We have to remember that our girls are learning the game of volleyball as are the other teams,” said freshman coach Don Ledezma.

“We just have to work harder and keep our heads up.”

The Beeville JV girls had the same result, losing to both opponents in straight sets.

“It was tough from the start. We are struggling with staying consistent and focused,” said JV coach Katina Flournoy.

“We have to stay calm in pressure situations. We continue to work on our game and get used to working together.”

The varsity girls played Yoakum in their first match of the tri-meet. The Lady Trojans started off well, but the Lady Bulldogs rallied to capture set one 25-20.

“Unfortunately, in the next couple of sets, we just fell off the horse and could never recover,” said head coach Brittainie Zinsmeyer.

In the match with the Lady Panthers, the Lady Trojans came out flat and could never mount a charge against the Navarro girls.

“We just lost our steam and lacked the energy to keep up with the Lady Panthers. We will take a step back and hit the court hard to get ready for our first district game against Tuloso-Midway,” said Zinsmeyer.

That district match-up was played Friday evening at T-M. Look for the story on that match in the next Bee-Picayune.

The Lady Trojans will play at home on Tuesday night when the Victoria West Lady Warriors visit Beeville. On Friday, the Calallen Ladycats will be in town to tangle with the Lady Trojans. The freshman contests get things started at 5:30 on Tuesday night and at 5 p.m. Friday.
