Lady Trojans open district play with loss to Calallen

CALALLEN – The Lady Trojan varsity volleyball team ran into a tough, playoff experienced Calallen squad on Tuesday night to begin District 30-4A play.

The Ladycats captured the best of five set match in three straight sets. Scores were 25-8, 25-8 and 25-12 as the Calallen girls dominated the floor.

The Ladycats made it a clean sweep by also winning the JV and freshman contests in straight sets. The JV’s best-of-three sets had the Calallen girls earning 25-10 and a 25-14 victories. The Ladycat freshmen defeated Beeville 25-20 and 25-6.

In the varsity match, Ciara Garcia had two kills while Cheyenne Del Bosque and Margaret Downing each contributed one kill. Eddika Ortega had two assists while Garcia contributed one. MacKenzie Harvey came up with six digs on defense for the Lady Trojans. Lorena Rosales chipped in with three digs. Margaret Downing blocked four Calallen hits, and Garcia contributed three blocks along the net for the Beeville girls.

The Lady Trojans had an open date on Friday but will be back on the court on Tuesday night at Carroll in a non-district match. Next Friday evening, the Beeville girls will resume district play when they host the Tuloso-Midway Cherokees.
