“We came out charging right from the start tonight. It seemed as if we were on a mission, and we did not let up until the mission was accomplished,” said Lady Trojan head coach Katina Walker.
The win improves the Beeville girls’ season record to 24-6, and they remain in second place in the district title chase at 6-2. The East Lady Titans have just one loss on their district record, and the Beeville girls travel to Victoria East on Friday night for a showdown and a chance to tie the Titans.
The Lady Trojan defense was tough all night against the Lady Warriors. The visitors managed just two first period points against the Beeville pressure. The Lady Trojans scored 12 first quarter points to jump to a 10-point advantage. The Lady Trojans started the quarter with a 12-0 run, but the Warriors avoided the shutout with a buzzer beating jumper to get on the scoreboard.
“The girls were relentless on the defensive end which caused some good things to happen offensively, “ Walker said.
The teams played fairly evenly over the next two periods. The Lady Trojans went into the halftime break with a 25-13 margin and the lead was 15, 40-25, heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Trojans tapped their reserves and hit for 16 fourth quarter points to pull even farther out front.
“Everyone contributed. Sophia Galindo came in off the bench and was a factor on the boards and got some easy put-back points for us,” Walker said.
Victoria Elizalde led the Lady Trojans with 11 points and came up with seven steals on defense. Ciara Garcia was also in double figures with 10 points. Theresa Amador followed with nine. Lynn Puente contributed seven, with four coming on four free throw attempts. Tori Muñoz supplied five markers and had three steals. Galindo finished with five tallies in limited minutes. Paige McKinney scored four points. Brennan Holder added three and helped out on the boards with several rebounds. Brianna Jackson added a late field goal for two points.
The Lady Trojans were off on Tuesday and will travel to Victoria on Friday. Next Tuesday night, the Beeville girls will host Port Lavaca.
