The “A” team won in three games, fighting to come back for the win in the third one. In the first game, Landry Brand and Alexis Foil combined to serve all points earned by the Lady Yearlings, while the others struggled to get a serve in. The ladies made up for missed serves by working hard on the floor to help win points for the team. GW dropped game two again struggling to get serves in and get any offensive attacks going against Taft. The ladies came back in game three behind serves from Kayleigh Franklin, Heidi Mathis and Laney Mosley to take the win. Scores were 25 – 13, 16 – 25 and 15 – 5.
On Sept. 24th the Lady Yearlings traveled to Mathis to face the Lady Pirates. The “B” team lost in close games 21 – 25 and 22 – 25. Maggie Upton, Kelly Lillie and Allyson Ruiz stood out at serving for the Lady Yearlings. However, with Mathis serving very well, GW struggled to return them and get the win.
The “A” team won in three 25 – 23, 13 – 25 and 15 – 9. The ladies got down 6 points in the beginning and slowly fought back to take the first game. In the second game, the ladies could not get anything going for themselves giving Mathis all of the momentum. The third and deciding game saw the Lady Yearlings fight back and take the win with Mathis earning only three of their nine points. Landry, Ali Katzfey, Carson Crisp, Kylie Wallace, Heidi and Alexis led the offense with their serves. All of the girls worked hard to bump, set, and spike and grab the win.
These young ladies are improving daily in their work ethic and gaining confidence in themselves. Go, fight, win Lady Yearlings!
