The 8th grade Lady Yearlings won their season opener in their new district against San Diego. The “B” team won 25–7 and 25-17. Maggie Upton led all servers to help win the first game, and Nickole Gutierrez and Kimbra Fox served well in the second one. Other team members included Lillie Bottoms, Alyssa Constante, Farren Bottoms, Stephanie Castillo, Andrea Waggoner, Ashley Killion, Logan Quinn, Allyson Ruiz, Hunter Smith, Dana Bernal, Kelly Lilie, Loryn Calderon, Monique Cramer, and Vanessa Rodriguez.

The “A” team also won in two with scores of 25-15 and 25-22. This group did a great job of passing and serving. Landry Brand kept the attack going with her great serving. Heidi Mathis and Alexis Foil did a good job setting and everyone hustled to take this win. Other team members included Lauren Carroll, Abbigail Schuette, Carson Crisp, Laney Mosley, Kylie Wallace, Alexis Salazar, Sofia Ibarra, Ali Katzfey and Kayleigh Franklin.

The Lady Yearlings played Freer at home on Monday night. The “B” team lost to the Lady Bucs 23-25 and 15-25. The girls had a hard time getting serves in and getting any offense going to help take the win. Nickole Gutierrez and Loryn Calderon led in serving.

The “A” team won in two 25-12 and 25-9. Kylie Wallace, Kayleigh Franklin and Ali Katzfey served well with Freer being able to return very few balls. The team continues to work hard in practice and improve daily.

The “A” team will travel to Tuloso-Midway this weekend to play in a tournament. Their next district match will be Monday, Sept. 17th at home against Taft.
