The 8th grade Lady Yearlings finished their 2012 volleyball season with a loss to Mathis. The Ladies played Mathis at home on Monday night, but came up short against the Lady Pirates. Mathis won in three 25-22, 13-25 and 15-9.

The girls fought point for point in the first game up to 22 all, and gave up the last three points to the opponent’s advantage. The Lady Yearlings came out firing again fighting point for point in game two. Kylie Wallace finally stepped up and served for 13 straight points. Her teammates helped keep possession with their floor play. The Lady Pirates jumped to a lead in game three and George West could not regain the momentum felt in game two, falling short six points.

The Lady Yearling B-team split with Mathis 25-22 and 18-25. Maggie Upton, Dana Bernal and Sophia Ibarra led the team with their serves. However, the ladies could not take the second game due to the strong serving of the Lady Pirates.

George West came into the match with a 6-1 district record, and a possible tie for first with Banquete. They finish with a 6-2 district record. While the Lady Yearlings wanted to close their season with a win, they need to know that they have come so very far since the start of the season. I hope that they close this season feeling as proud of themselves as I am of them. Go- Fight- Win Lady Yearlings!
