AUSTIN — State Rep. J.M. Lozano was awarded leadership positions in the Texas House of Representatives on Thursday, being named vice-chair of the House International Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, which oversees trade and relations between Texas and other states and nations. He was also awarded a second term on the House Energy Committee, where he will continue to represent the interests of the Eagle Ford Shale and South Texas communities.

Lozano, who is serving in his second term, is one of the youngest members to receive a committee leadership role, reflecting his hard work in the House. His vice-chair appointment will ensure South Texans are championed in a growing economy. The committee, which oversees international trade and relations, will consider legislation directly impacting the economy statewide and have significant impact on South Texas. In 2012, the State of Texas was ranked as the top exporting state for the 10th consecutive year and continuously ranks in the top-15 of global economies.

Apart from being named vice-chair, Rep. Lozano maintained his position on the House Energy Resources Committee. His work for Texas energy resources has gained him a reputation as a staunch advocate and proponent for domestic energy production. Lozano also will champion greater skills and technical schooling so that more South Texans can train for well-paying jobs in the energy sector.

Lozano also was appointed to the Committee on Rules & Resolutions.

Lozano is a second term state representative from District 43, which includes Bee, Jim Wells, Kleberg, and San Patricio counties.
