BEEVILLE – The Moreno Middle School Trojan tennis team hosted a tournament on Saturday with the local netters earning several top medals.

In seventh-grade mixed doubles, the team of Makayla Aguirre and Samuel Benavides captured second place. In girls’ singles, Jessica Horalek placed third, and Adrianna Casarez won the consolation bracket with Megan Alaniz placing fourth.

The MMS Lady Trojan seventh-grade doubles teams dominated the tournament with Makayla Aguirre and Anissa Gonzales winning first place. Taking the second place medals were Adrianna Caserez and Olivia Garza of Beeville. The third place medals also went to an MMS squad as Peyton Lamb and Raeanna Kemp teamed up and played well together. The consolation division was won by Maddison Arthur and Allissa Escamia from Beeville.

“The eighth-grade girls’ singles did a great job as well,” said coach Julie Maupin.

Isabel Olivarez captured third place and Kassidy Rands won the consolation bracket for the young Lady Trojans.

In seventh-grade boys’ singles, Samuel Benavides captured the third place medal.

This was the last tournament until the district meet on April 26.

“These young athletes have come a long way and are going to be very competitive at the district meet,” Maupin said.
