Minimum age of certification is 9 years old.
If you are under 9 years old, you must be accompanied by a person who is at least 17 years old and is licensed to hunt in Texas and who has passed hunter education or is exempt (born before Sept. 2, 1971).
Those 9 to 16 years old must successfully complete a Hunter Education Course and be accompanied just as 9-year-olds are required.
For age 17 years old or more, you must successfully complete a Hunter Education course or purchase a one-time-only “Hunter Education Deferral’ good for the current license year, and you must be accompanied.
“Hunter Education Deferral” cost is $10 and is one-time-only and only valid through the current license year. Take the course prior to Aug. 31 of the current license year and receive a $5 discount off the $15 certification course cost.
Note: A person who has been convicted or has received deferred adjudication for violation of the mandatory hunter education requirement is prohibited from applying for a deferral.
Proof of certification or “Hunter Education Deferral” is required to be on your person while hunting.
Certification is not required to purchase a hunting license.
The next class is 9 a.m. Sept. 8-9 in the Three Rivers City Hall.
This is mandatory hunter education as provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife. For more information, call 1-800-792-1112 or visit the web site: tpwd.state.tx.us/huntered.
