Mr. Montez was born Sept. 30, 1954, in Beeville to Martin and Lorenza O. Montez. He was The Voice of the Trojans with pride and joy, worked as the building trade instructor at A.C. Jones and as a BISD driver. He worked for BISD for 37 years, retired and continued as a part-time bus driver; he was also a member of the zoning committee and was the parish council president at St. James Catholic Church. He loved fishing, cooking and helping his community in every way possible.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Francisco “Frank” Montez; and a sister, Rebecca “Becky” Montez.
Survivors include his wife, Yolanda Montez of Beeville; three sons, Martin (Terry) Montez of Robstown, Michael (Cinthia) Montez and Isaiah Montez, both of Beeville; grandchildren, Jacob, Zaylie, Kristen, Sabrina and Brandon Montez; two brothers, Rudy (Mary) Montez of San Antonio and Richard (Maria) Montez of Nebraska; also nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held Thursday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home. Visitation resumed at 5 o’clock until 9 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a rosary recited there at 7 o’clock.
On Friday, May 2, the body lay in state at 9 a.m. with the funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Pasala officiating. Burial followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Pallbearers were Isaiah Montez, Sal Celestino Montez, BeBe Adamez, Sal Medina, Richard Montez and Seth Lopez.
