The Moreno Middle School tennis team competed at its district meet last Saturday in Rockport with good results, although no district title came Beeville’s way.

In the eighth-grade girls’ singles, Victoria Elizalde and Erica Martin lost their first round. The doubles team of Randi Maupin and Heather Mckinney drew a bye in the first round and lost their second round to a duo from G-P.

Lady Trojans Emily Barris and Sydney Wesson and the team of Meg Dudney and Brianna Jackson both drew byes in the first round, but lost their second rounds.

The MMS double tandem of Cori Morre and Lindsey Roberson won their first two rounds, but lost in the quarterfinals. The two MMS players competed for third place but lost in a closer match to a pairing from Rockport.

In eighth-grade boys’ singles, Eric Dehnert made it to the finals, but lost to G-P, thus taking second place in district. Marcos Ulloa lost in his first round.

In the boys’ double competition, Hunter Hardy and Graham Traylor along with teammates Matt Cuellar and Robert Reyna, and Mason Elliott with Colton Wren all lost in the first round.

The seventh-grade boys’ doubles teams played in a round robin tournament. The MMS duo of Paul Coronado and Tyler Stewart played really well but were defeated in all three matches, according to MMS coach Julie Maupin.

“This was our last event for this year and I would like to thank all the players and their parents making my first year a wonderful experience,” said coach Julie Maupin.
