After that, those who have unpaid fines can expect to look up the first two weeks of February to see city policemen coming through the front door with handcuffs.
Municipal Court Clerk Elie DeLeon said the grace period will last from Jan. 28-Feb. 1. Anyone who owes an unpaid fine should contact the clerk’s office at (361) 358-0260 or stop by the offices at 405 N. St. Mary’s St. either to pay off the fine or arrange a payment plan.
Then, warrants will be issued and police officers will start looking for those who have failed to pay their fines from Feb. 4-15.
“Come in and take care of them,” DeLeon said this week when issuing the warning.
She said the offices are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. But the offices are closed daily from noon until 1 p.m. for lunch.
