REFUGIO — Of the county’s 5,130 registered voters, 2,739 residents went to the polls to vote, a 53.39 percent of the eligible electorate.

The nice turnout for the presidential election occurred in spite of local county officials running unopposed.

All the unopposed local county candidates, with the exception of the county attorney, ran as Democrats, yet the county voters voted Republican in every other race.
