Parenting Your Teenager is a Workshop for parents and guardians who seek to better guide their youth through the adolescent years.

The topics to be addressed are identity, tools for dealing, Turmoil, Rebellion, Legacy and Discipling your Teenager.

The DVD presentation is facilitated by mother of four, Crickett Iley, and features Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott offering expert advice on bringing harmony into parenting your teen.

The group meets on Wednesday evenings in the JOY classroom at First Baptist Church in George West. The workshop starts at 6:30 p.m. The time for adults parallels the youth night activities known at First Baptist as “the Mix”. Junior and Senior High students can share a meal, enjoy each others company and have some fun while learning how to get by in our very hurried world.

Youth Minister, David Valverde and his wife Sabrina, plan activities to engage the students in conversation, invigoration, relaxation and reflection.

Each Wednesday night brings a new energy and a new opportunity for students to grow in their faith journey. Students who attend “the Mix” come from all faith backgrounds and find Wednesday night fun at “the Mix” unites them in a different way than school and sports allow for. Whether the student be a church goer or not, they will find “ the Mix “ to be a safe haven from the pressures of their daily demands.

Like the Parenting Your Teen Workshop, ‘the Mix” is open to the community. Information on either event is available by calling First Baptist Church George West at 449-1231.

This Wednesday , Oct. 14, the Parenting Your Teen workshop will move to the school cafeteria so parents of secondary level students can attend the AIM presentation on substance abuse awareness sponsored by GWISD. The AIM event is a wonderful resource for parents and students. Adult community attendance is strongly encouraged . The event will start at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Because students will participate in the AIM program the following school day, “the Mix “ will meet as usual at 6:30 p.m. in the FBC Youth area.

Parenting Your Teen will resume at First Baptist the following Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. with the topic Tool Box for parenting patterns.
