Pettus bats bounce Woodsboro boys

PETTUS – On Friday night, the Eagles pounded the Woodsboro pitching for 11 runs while holding the opposing boys to three runs.

The Pettus bats did their damage late in the game, as it was just a 1-1 game through four complete innings.

Woodsboro struck for two runs in the top of the fifth to gain a 3-1 lead, but it was short-lived as the Pettus boys erupted for four runs to regain the lead at 5-3 heading into the sixth frame.

Pettus starting pitcher Ryan Beck held the Woodsboro batters scoreless in the sixth. The Pettus boys struck for six big runs to take command and pull away from the visitors. Beck again shut out the Woodsboro boys in the seventh to preserve the 11-3 Pettus victory. Beck struck out 18 Woodsboro batters in the contest.

Anthony Mendoza was 1-4 as was Taylor Yeoman. Yeoman had one RBI on the night and scored once for the Eagles. Beck had one hit in four trips with one RBI and scored one run. Lane Kruger was 1 for 2, with one RBI on the night with two runs scored.

Coby Gonzales batted 3 for 4 and scored two runs to help the Eagle cause. Clay Brown was 1-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Zack Gonzales had three big hits in four official trips to the plate with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Matt Gonzales went 3-3 with a double and three RBI’s as well as one run scored. Dylan Dunn worked for two walks and contributed one RBI.

Pettus is now 3-6 in district and 7-11 overall on the year.

The final game of the season will be on Monday in Falls City.
