According to information from the Department of Public Safety (DPS), Pettus resident Reyes Cruces (21) was riding a 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle in the parking lot of the Pettus Valero gas station on US Highway 181 at about 11:20 a.m. when he lost control of the bike.
Cruces, who police say was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Police said that Cruces accelerated the motorcycle popping a “wheelie” sending him and the motorcycle sliding on the pavement about 50 yards toward a gas pump.
The motorcycle struck the gas pump. Police said, and Cruces' head struck the cement barrier near the pump which resulted in fatal injuries.
