Mrs. Hernandez was born on Jan. 3, 1922, in Fannin to Salvador and Calistra (Weisheimer) Cano. She married Francisco Hernandez on Nov. 23, 1947, in Beeville.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; five brothers, Trino Cano, Manuel W. Cano, Jose W. Cano, Pedro Espinosa and Celestino Cano; four sisters, Genoveva Cano Vega, Sofia Espinosa Ortega, Emilia Cano Caldera and Margarita Cano Moron; and one grandson, Oliver Gonzales, Jr.
Survivors include three sons, Johnny Frank (Diana) Hernandez of Katy, Manuel Hernandez of New Orleans, La., and Susano (Julie) Hernandez of Beeville; six daughters, Rosemary (Oliver) Gonzales, Mary Jane (Jose) Hernandez, Luz (Ruben) Garza, Sofie (Armando) Cavazos, Mary Helen (Ernesto) Perez, all of Beeville, and Genevea Hernandez of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Antonio (Jose) Cano and Valentina (Manuel) Cano; one brother-in-law, Chon Moron Sr.; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A rosary was recited there that evening at 7 o’clock.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Interment followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Pallbearers were her firstborn granddaughters, Rosemary Hartsfield, Yvette Rodriguez, Angelica Cavazos, Suzette Hernandez, Ashley Santry and Brittany Nanney.
Honorary pallbearers were Lorenzo Gonzales, John Anthony Hernandez, Orlando Hernandez, Romel Camacho, Jesse Cavazos, Ernest Perez, M.J. Hernandez and Jeffery Nanney.
