The Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cats began their second round of district play on Tuesday in Banquete.

The S-T girls went through the first round undefeated and appear to be off to a great second round start with a 59-15 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

“The girls did a fantastic job against Banquete. To get a big lead early the girls put a lot of pressure on the Bulldogs which caused them to turn the ball over a lot,” said head coach Joseph Grimes III.

“We also shot the ball very well and took care of the defensive boards.”

The Lady Cats defense was outstanding as they shut off the Banquete offense all night long. The visitors hit for 24 first period points while holding the home team to just four points.

The Lady Bulldogs got their highest point output of the night in the second period with a seven-point effort to trail 40-11 at the half.

The S-T defense limited the home team to a miniscule two points in each of the second half quarters while adding 19 points to their side of the scoreboard.

Three Lady Cats were in double figures on the night with Celina Acosta, Amber Hughlett and Brittany Garza all achieving 12 points. D’Anne Wilder finished with nine and Samantha Minter added eight. Makayla Chambers contributed four and Tamara Merritt made two.

The Lady Cats improved to 8-0 in district and played at home Friday night against Taft. On Tuesday night, the Lady Cats will host the San Diego Lady Vaqueros.
