In the long jump, Misty Martin placed second with a leap of 13-7, while Emily Salinas was fourth at 13-4. Teammate Brianna Woodard jumped 13-2 for sixth place.
In the triple jump, Martin captured a silver medal with a leap of 27-10. Woodard was sixth at 24-5. Lady Cat Alyssa Alaniz was sixth in the discus with a throw of 61-9. Alaniz placed third in the shot put with a 25-9.5 toss. Naomi Garza was fourth in the event at 25-5.25.
Martin captured the first place gold in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:53.59. Katheryn Sweetman was sixth with a time of 3:28.42. In the 100-meter dash, Emily Salinas finished fourth with a good time of 14.96.
Martin won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.10 with Woodard in fourth place at 1:14.58. Salinas finished fifth in 1:16.78. Martin also took first place in the 200-meter dash with a 28.88 clocking. Salinas crossed the finish line in fifth at 32.78.
In the 1,600-meter run, Haley Scott finished second in 7:20.38 with Sweetman right behind her in third at 7:53.85.
The JV Lady Cats finished second overall with only th elady Owls from ODem accumulating more points at the meet. Odem gathered in 153 points while the S-T squad came in with 90. Taft was third with 75 points.
Tatiana Maxwell placed third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 7-0. Samantha Minter was fifth in the triple jump with a 31-2.5 effort. D’Anne Wilder placed sixth in the discus with a toss of 91-2.
In the shot put, Erica Nevarez placed third with a throw of 35-7. Brittany Garza was close back in fourth at 33-1. The 400-meter relay team of Kathy Acosta, Nevarez, Courtney Leonard and Isabel Jimenez placed sixth (no time given).
Tatiana Maxwell captured the gold in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.72. Brianna Maxwell was sixth in the event at 2:56.99. Minter was second in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:04.14. Kayla Deleon placed fourth in 1:07.37 and Leonard finished sixth at 1:09.84.
Tatiana Maxwell placed second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.98. Minter took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.71. Brianna Maxwell captured third in the 1,600-meter run in 6:27.62. The 1,600-meter relay squad of Minter, Jimenez, Deleon and Tatiana Maxwell captured first place points with a time of 4:29.
The district meet had the Refugio Ladycats win the girls’ varsity division with 149 points. The Odem Lady Owls were second with 97 points and the S-T girls were third with 87 points in the meet.
“Overall these girls did a fantastic job of competing. We had just a handful of girls participating in track so I never thought we would place where we did,” said girls’ coach Joseph Grimes III.
“ These girls put a great amount of effort into their races and came out with wonderful results that they should be very proud of like I am.”
The top four finishers advanced to the Region IV meet at Judson Stadium on April 27-28 in Converse.
